Have you ever heard of choosing a word of the year? I just recently learned of it, and I absolutely love the idea. It’s something I’ve never done before, so I figured I would give it a try and share my thoughts with you here!
I wanted to start by sharing a few other bloggers that have posted about their words that have truly inspired me! Be sure to check them out!!
My roommates and I were moving around some furniture around in our living room and as we were trying to decide where to put things, we found ourselves saying, “let’s try it!” After saying it multiple times, we realized that it’s a great way to go into this new year. We have 6 months left together before I move home. We know that it’s important to take advantage of the time we have together. So together, we will cast asides our fears and procrastinations and try things.
In reflecting on our phrase, I’ve realized that I can embody exactly this principle in my word of the year.
To figure out my word, I thought about what our phrase “let’s try it” means to me. To me it means doing, not simply being. It means being active, not passive. Making things happen. In this, my word is open. This year I aspire to be open to adventure. Open to exploration. Open to opportunities. I want to be willing and fearless and intrepid. I want to be open to God working in and through me.
Lord, help me to be OPEN this year.
