Can you believe we’re a month into 2018 already?! I can’t at all!! This year has been off to a great start already and I’ve got a lot of good stuff to share with y’all! I’m also adding a couple new sections to this monthly wrap up series: goals and a photo challenge!
I’m on track with my reading goal for this year so far and have finished three books this month! I also created a Goodreads account in case you’d like to follow along there. I’d love to see what you are reading!
Of the three books I finished, two were on my top 10 books to read this year. I finished Snow Falling by Jane Gloriana Villanueva, Turtles All the Way Down by John Green, and The Syndrome by Ridley Pearson.
Snow Falling was as good as I dreamed it would be. It’s based on the show Jane the Virgin and was “written by” the main character of the show. I love how it integrated the main plots of the show but changed it enough to keep me intrigued. It was set in Miami in the early 1900s so it had the historical aspect to it as well.
I also loved John Green’s Turtles All the Way Down. I’ve loved all of the books I’ve read by John Green. He does a great job capturing the real effects of anxiety while creating an interesting mystery to unravel. It’s pretty different that the other books of his that I have read, but I really enjoyed it.
The last book I’ve read this month was The Syndrome. It’s a book in the Kingdom Keepers series, a Disney adventure series. I started reading this series as a child before going to Disney World with my family. I mostly forgot about the books as I got older but I finally made the decision to read the entire series before I went to Disney World again in 2016. This book is technically after the main series and there is a three book revival series that was just published recently. I love the adventure of these books and that they take place in Disney, because it really is one of the happiest, most magical places on Earth!
I’ve found some fun podcasts that I’ve been loving this month! While driving on some longer road trips, I started listening to some podcasts discussing television shows. My two favorites of these are The Bachelor Party, a super fun podcast to laugh to on everything about this season of the Bachelor. The other one I’ve been loving is The Riverdale Register. The two hosts have great banter and go off on some awesome tangents while recapping episodes of Riverdale and discussing all of the crazy theories and rumors. Both podcasts are great to dive into television and have a good laugh!
I actually made it to the movies this month! I absolutely loved both of these movies and HIGHLY recommend seeing them if you get a chance!
I saw Jumanji early this month. I wasn’t sure what to expect because I love the original. I think I set my expectations pretty low, but it was phenomenal! It made me laugh a lot and it almost even made me cry! It was such a great revival of a classic movie!
The other movie I saw was The Greatest Showman. I’m sure a lot of you have already seen this one, but if you haven’t, what are you waiting for?! I didn’t really know how I would like this one, but I love Hugh Jackman and it doesn’t disappoint. The music is powerful and it tells a great story. I had fun researching the truth versus fiction of it after I saw the movie (twice I might add). I would definitely recommend this one; it’ll have you singing Never Enough and Rewrite the Stars for days to come!
My biggest focus for February is to iron out my morning routine. I’ve been working on waking up earlier, but still struggle about half of the time. I want to figure out how to work in prayer time, reading time, blogging time, and exercise time each morning before going to work.
I don’t have any big (or small) trips planned for this month, but I hope to explore local and find at least one cool new spot!
My last goal is to get into grad school! I applied for early admission to my program of choice and will keep you posted as I find out more! Please keep me in your prayers for this one!!
