WANDERLUST: (n.) A strong desire or urge to wander or travel and explore the world.
Do you ever just want to drop everything you’re doing to travel? Lately, that’s all I’ve wanted to do. My heart aches to explore new places, meet new people, experience new cultures. To see the beauty of God’s creation all around this world He created for us.
My friends and I were talking last night about what our dream job would be, no matter how unrealistic and regardless of our current career paths. I think my answer would be a travel agent. I love planning trips, especially when I get to take them.
I planned my first vacation in the Summer of 2011. My family has always traveled throughout the States during the summers. My dad is in a chorus that competes every summer with the event being hosted in a different city each time. We would tend to use the location of the competition as the starting place for our summer travels. In 2011, we decided to go to South Dakota, and my parents tasked me with figuring out our itinerary and where to stay. At the ripe age of sixteen, I checked out a bunch of travel books from the library and started my research.
I found a cute mountainside motel that was recommended in the travel books. I planned days to see the state parks and Mount Rushmore. I figured it all out (almost down to the minute). It was such a joy to plan it all out and have it come to fruition in such an incredible trip.
Ever since then, I have been in charge of planning our vacations with my family, and even sometimes with my friends too. So if I could plan out trips and take them, to make sure they are awesome, that would be the dream job.
At the moment, I don’t have the time to take a long trip around the world, so I am doing what I can that is close to me on the weekends. I have to remember that even though I’ve been in Michigan for a while, I have not seen it all. Last weekend I drove up to Grand Haven and over to Grand Rapids. This weekend, I’m heading up to Traverse City and Crystal Mountain to explore and ski with some of my best friends!
We’ve been given a great big world to explore, but sometimes the best place to begin is our backyard.
I wanted to finish this with a map of the places that I’ve been. I hope that I can begin filling in more places on this map this year and continue my travels around the world.
